Pianist Jason Moran, the 25-year-old Houston native who has been a mainstay in saxophonist Greg Osby's critically acclaimed unit for the last 3 years, returns with his sophomore Blue Note outing, Facing Left, a trio date featuring the rhythm team of bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits. Moran's debut, Soundtrack To Human Motion, was ranked top album of 1999 by Ben Ratliff of the New York Times and introduced the jazz world to the iconoclastic young artist's individual conception and improvisational prowess.

“What makes Moran special is an unusual blend: the jagged expressionism of his sources refined by a lush intellectual romanticism."

-- Thomas Conrad, Stereophile
