AAJ celebrates Spring, as we bring you another outstanding sampler from the music vaults. We do our best to offer a diverse mix of the current trends in contemporary jazz. Some of the artists will be familiar, while others will be new. You never know who we will review next, so stay tuned.

Moondance
Hubert Laws
2004

Every now and then a reviewer finds herself shamelessly hitting the replay button on a song. The cover tune, Moondance, is a totally intoxicating union of Laws on flute and Chris Botti on trumpet. Laws brings the flute to the center stage in a collection of songs that are full of melodic grooves.

Livin’ Large
Euge Groove
2004

Euge Groove, (AKA Steven Eugene Grove), returns with his debut Narada release. His third solo album, Groove finds himself fusing classic R&B, pop and jazz into a funky '70’s sound. Groove wrote the majority of the tunes with only two covers. You’ll share some fond memories of Sly and the Family Stone in "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)".

Smooth Grooves 4
Higher Octave
2004

Smooth jazz fans will enjoy a rhythmic club mix from a sampling of the artists on the Higher Octave label. A few of those featured are: Acoustic Alchemy - Venus Morena , Craig Chaquico - Luminosa and Jimmy Sommers - What Am I Gonna Do. Songs flow seamlessly in a happening party groove.

FE Estivate
Fe Band
2003

Several well-schooled musicians join forces to explore the steel drums in a group known as “FE.” They take the classic style of calypso music a step further in a mixture of afro-cuban jazz, rock, Latin and funk. This CD sampler highlights the diverse talents of this Philadelphia based group.
